Tuesday 1/11 - Read "A Turbulent Time: The 17th and 18th Centuries." (408-417) Highlight or underline any words you do not know and attempt to define them in context in the margins of you book.

Wednesday 1/12 -
HW: Read John Donne (420-430) except Holy Sonnet 10. Answer #3 & 5 on p. 423, #1 & 3 on p. 425, and #2 & 4 on p. 430.

Thursday 1/13 - No HW

Friday 1/14 - AP-Prompt Essay (9 pts.)
HW: Read Milton (460-463), then read Sonnet VII and Sonnet XIX and complete a TPCASTT analysis sheet for each.

Extra Credit Assignment

You are a theater critic for the NY Times. Write a review of Lowcountry Shakespeare's performance of Twelfth Night. Make sure you focus on the adaptatation of Shakespeare's original script as well as the effectiveness of the acting and staging of the play.

Due Monday 10/25.

Sonnet Assignment

Due Friday October 29 - Your assignment is to compose an original sonnet. It can be Petrarchan, English (Spenserian or Shakespearian), or a hybrid version. Along with your sonnet you need to write a narrative explication containing the following information:

- What is the occasion for your sonnet? (i.e., is it a love poem? a prayer? a question/answer? a problem/solution? Etc.)

- Why did you choose the particular sonnet form that you used?

- What rhyme scheme have you employed? Have you used perfect iambic pentameter or are there any metric variations? If so, why?

Tess Itinerary

You will have reading questions and vocab for each of the phases of the novel. Class discussion and reading days are below...as far as homework is concerned, you need to have the phases read and questions and vocab done for each of the respective discussion days. (It goes without saying that you will need to bring the book to class everyday!) I will take-up your answers/notes for ALL of the phases at the end of the final discussion period.
